Wardrobe Architect :: Week 6

We're playing with color once again this week.  This time we're supposed to organize the colors by categories: neutrals, near neutrals, and statement colors.

Neutrals
There's a bit of mixing between neutrals and near neutrals for me so I tried to divide them out based on how often I wear them (both in frequency and amounts).  The majority of my wardrobe is greyscale based, particularly along the darker end of the spectrum.  I would like to continue, possibly encourage this by thinking about patterns and the like instead of just using color blocking.

Near Neutrals
The taupey brown color I would like to eventually have as a neutral staple but since I don't own much/don't quite know what to do with it, it's stuck in the near neutrals.  The blue gradient is mainly in reference to varieties of denim although I would love to incorporate more navy as well as pale blue into my wardrobe.

Statement Colors
The big statement colors are mustard yellow, red, and burgundy with jewel tone blues and purples to a lesser extent. Mustard yellow is prominent in the summer, burgundy in the winter, and red appears throughout the year.  The other colors (olive, brown, and pumpkin) I enjoy wearing, but generally wear them less frequently.

Laying the colors out like this I can start to see that I tend to go with outfits that are comprised in a couple of ways:
  • All neutral
  • One near neutral and one neutral
  • Two near neutrals and one neutral
  • One statement color, one near neutral and one neutral
  • One statement color, two near neutrals
  • One statement color (in the case of the jewel tones: plum and deep blues)
Seeing this now, explains the comment I made last week about a lot of my colors not mixing and matching.  Blouses in statement colors are hard to match if most of my sweaters and cardigans are also statement colors.

Teaser Tuesday - April 14th

"My mother would never let the hearth die in her home," Margret said. She felt Agnes turn to look at her, but didn't meet her gaze. "She believed that as long as a light burned in the house, the Devil couldn't get in. Not even during the witching hour." Agnes was quiet. "What do you believe?" she asked eventually. Margret extended her hands towards the flames. "I think a fire is a useful thing to keep a body warm," she said. - Burial Rites by Hannah Kent Teaser Tuesday is  hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading . Teaser Tuesday - July 29th

Lack of perspective in literature (or in readers) often causes a contemporary condition I've heard referred to as "presentism"; that is, a disposition to judge all literature by the narrow standards of present time and present culture.  This leads to the phenomena such as the denunciation of classic novels such as Huckleberry Finn , on grounds that they deal with issues such as slavery, women's civil rights, ect., in a way not consistent with the notion of present-day political correctness. - "Presentism" The Outlandish Companion by Diana Gabaldon Teaser Tuesday is  hosted by MizB at Should Be Reading . Earth Day aka "Green Love" 2008

Leafy Tree Pendant from OneElf Earth Day’s fast approaching and I’m super excited. My ‘hug a tree’ shirt’s ready and waiting and I’m impatiently counting down the hours. Yes I’m a giant geek, but it’s the one day where spreading the green love is totally socially acceptable. Although I will still try and refrain from yelling at people who chuck plastic bottles in the trash; I will not refrain from rolling my eyes at people who look at me funny when I remove perfectly good rolls of wrapping paper from the trash. It’s going to be fun. However since it is Earth Day I know everyone’s being berated with things like ‘reduce, reuse, recycle’ and ‘turn the water off when you brush your teeth’. Important, yes, but I think there’s a bit of a bigger picture that gets missed in all that, so I’m going for something different. I’m not going to talk about it, at least not today. Today I’m talking about worms. Yes, I’m finally writing a real entry about something, and yes it’s about worms. ...
