Wardrobe Architect :: Week 6

We're playing with color once again this week.  This time we're supposed to organize the colors by categories: neutrals, near neutrals, and statement colors.     Neutrals There's a bit of mixing between neutrals and near neutrals for me so I tried to divide them out based on how often I wear them (both in frequency and amounts).  The majority of my wardrobe is greyscale based, particularly along the darker end of the spectrum.  I would like to continue, possibly encourage this by thinking about patterns and the like instead of just using color blocking.  Near Neutrals The taupey brown color I would like to eventually have as a neutral staple but since I don't own much/don't quite know what to do with it, it's stuck in the near neutrals.  The blue gradient is mainly in reference to varieties of denim although I would love to incorporate more navy as well as pale blue into my wardrobe. Statement Colors The big statement colors are mustard yellow, red,

Wardrobe Architect :: Week 5

This week is all about color.  For the most part I think I have this down.  Yes, I have a lot of clothes in colors I know I don't/won't wear, but I know that, even if I can't seem to get rid of the clothes.  I would like to skew my wardrobe more towards solid color monochromes on the black and white scale as well as browns, but other than that, the colors themselves as they're currently present work well.  It's more the styling of the clothes and individual pieces that I need to work on.   That being said, colors: I started out picking out the colors that most commonly occur in my wardrobe throughout the seasons.  Each season my have a slight variation (or multiple similar colors) but these are the basics. Then I went and played around, recreating some of my favorite outfits to get a sense of how the colors worked together, what roll patterns played in pulling in various accent colors and the like. Then I tried playing around with colors as they current

Wardrobe Architect :: Weeks 3 & 4

Week three of the project is all about discovering which shapes and silhouettes we prefer. The exercises focus on a few aspects: ease, length, neckline, waistline, fullness and sleeve length. Birds of thread put together a beautiful post illustrating the various silhouettes presented in the exercise.  Week four was all about using this information to develop silhouettes from which to design capsule wardrobes or individual outfits. For week three I ended up with the following: EASE AND FULLNESS : I prefer somewhat fitted garments falling somewhere in the middle of the spectrum. I strongly dislike very loose clothes; they may be comfortable but I feel awkward wearing them.  Generally I prefer skirts and dresses that fall in the range between A-line and somewhat full (gored), although I do wear very full or straight skirts on occasion without issue. LENGTH: I prefer shorts to be short to mid-thigh, dresses mid-thigh to mid-calf, and pants to be mid-calf or longer. Skirts ca
