Name: Fort Popham Location : Phippsburg, Maine Date Visited: 21 May Random Facts : The fort is located at the mouth of the Kennebec River. Construction of the current fort began in 1861, during the Civil War. It, however, was never finished. Modifications were made during both the Spanish-American and First World War. The completing of Fort Baldwin eventually rendered Fort Popham obsolete. It was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1969. Notes: It was damp and chilly the morning we were here but it was beautiful and foggy. It’s a place that’s definitely more interesting to someone with an interest in history.
